Managing a long-distance relationship in college is hard enough without having to coordinate gifts for things like holidays and Valentine's Day.
Fortunately, with a little creative planning, long-distance gifts don't have to be as complicated as your long-distance relationship.
The right balance of similarities and differences can help you both be better than you are alone. How are you making her better than she could have been alone? If your world revolves around her, and her world revolves around you, then something big is going to crash and explode… Great relationships happen when both people are trying to do something great with their lives, and have a team of other close friends helping them. If you’re not helping each other, then dating’s probably not helping… Authenticity is the greatest thing you can bring to the table. “Being yourself” doesn’t mean you don’t have anything to work on in the relationship. I’ve been dating an amazing spiritual girl, so I can speak from both sides of the coin: how to mess up in a relationship and how to mess up when you’re single (I consider myself a master of both). And some (like me) more than all others…But I’m here to tell you that there’s hope!
Diversity is good – college is the perfect time to make lots of different kinds of friends and learn how to build real relationships. And, be confident in the friendships God is helping you build!
Plus, desperation smells like my 7th grade locker room: bad.
Ok, so it’s tempting to choose to date a girl who’s just like you.
What really matters is finding a girl who can help you see things differently—that’s a window.
When our strengths and weaknesses are different, we can strengthen each other in the areas we’re weak in. She should also be passionate about the things you value most: God, academics, helping people, etc. Then you can be the definition of cool, which is making others cool.
With these things in mind, you will end up pushing each other to be greater, instead of just staring at yourselves in a mirror.
